poor transmission

yet another problem with the hf from hell. when i am driving its really hard to accelerate and if i go below about 2000 rpms the car starts to shake really bad. it felt like the enigine wasnt gettin enough fuel or air or the spark plugs were but when i have the clutch it in revs right up happy as a clam (a 62 hp clam at that) and no shaking which seems to me taht it would rule out any sort of engine problems but i think i am going to replace the fuel filter and air filter and maybe spark plugs as it is an old car anyway. so back to the point is my transmission dead and if so as a replacement should i get a dx or an si because i hear that the only difference is the dx has a larger fifth gear which i could live with considering its a good deal cheaper (like 125 as compared to 200 for an si. is this right ?) heres to hoping this is the last of my problems for awhile

i would go for the si engine and tranny. I couldnt deal with an 8 valve... or is it 12? Whichever, couldnt deal with either one of em.

i wasnt going to get a new engine just yet just a new tranny even if the hf tranny is fine its gearing is awful so i want something better and i just read this article about putting a dx head on an hf and gettin an si tranny ecu and distributor to get 109 hp at the back wheels that would hold me over until i can raise the money to get a whole new engine does this sound like something that could work ?

109 hp at the back wheels. that would be tight if you actually did that.
FYI unless i have missed something really big, it is front wheel drive.

well, you will have to change the head gasket, unbolt the exauhst manifold from the other head and intake manifold, then bolt the other head on and put the intrake and exauhst back on, i had it done in a day
