Almost died today

It was all my fault. I was driving home in a 45 mph zone, and the light ahead was turning yellow, so i floored it i was closely watching the oncoming sides turn lane, and as i neared the intersection at about 55mph i saw a maroon cadillac make a late turn, i figured he was the last one. but all of a sudden a maroon saturn shoots across right in front of me, i firmly pressed on the brake pedal, staying shy of making the wheels lock. then i quickly steered left right around the back of his car. i went slow the rest of the way. makes me feel really stupid as well as something else....i dont know.

Re: Almost died today

there is this stoplight in my town that makes ppl run the red light all the time. there is a train that crosses on of the roads bout 30 feet away from the intersection. when there is a train, the yellow light is blinking for the road that doesnt have the tracks on it. when the train gets done crossing, the light turns right to red without staying a solid yellow at all. so i always get caught in the intersection with it red for me. it pisses me off.

A yellow light officially means STOP, not "hurry up".
We're all guilty of this. I try not to run yellow lights unless Im certain
Im the only car at the interscetion. I never do it in traffic.

About RR tracks, yes they are a PIA, but better safe than sorry.
Almost no one ever survives a train collision. Especially beware of "double tracks". I heard of a guy who, after waiting a half hour for a
freight train to crawl past, proceeded through after the caboose had gone by, but the lights were still red. Well, another (faster) passenger train was comming the other way & hit the guy.

If there is a problem with people running stuck red's or running the yellow, because the red is timed too long, you can contact your state DOT, and have the matter checked. They may shorten the wait time, and fix the timers.

Re: Almost died today

Red doesn't mean stop then go if the traffic allows.
Yellow doesn't mean slam on the gas.
Green doesn't mean you can go safe.

Hey huggiebear, why dont get your's straight before you run your mouth!

Yellow doesnt mean yield, it means slow down & get ready to stop.
ie: dont proceed or STOP, duh? You officially are NOT permitted to
proceed through the yellow unless you are already into the intersection
as the light changes from green to yellow. This is the law in all 50 states
when I took driver's ed, I dont think it's changed since.

Why dont you check your state's DMV or driver-ed website before you
reply again. If im wrong, attach the URL or address link & I'll stand corrected. How about an intelligent disagreement (backed up with by facts) not a foul-mouthed, dumb-ass, personal opinion.

I know just how you feel man. But I dont know if I have God's divine favor or not but I've had about 10 close calls in 6 months. Pretty much cause I'm a speedfreak

In fact this afternoon this guy was about 30 yards in front of me and I was doing 30 or so, when he got to like 10 yards in front of me and he almost cleared my way I floored it and he freakin freaked out as I saw his face on my side mirror. A symptom of road rage.

A second occurance happened when I cornered a right turn at a light and this car was in the middle of the road pulling a Y on a driveway. I almost hit the car but my hands magically reacted and turned to steer away from the car. This was at 35 MPH on a 90" angle right turn at a light near a residential area.

But I got brembo Slotted/Cross Drilled breaks so I can easily fix any speed incidents. Who knows, maybe I've got a little Schumacher in me?

The government clains it regulates the time a train can block a road. Here in canada if a train blocks a road for more than 20 minutes railroad company(CPR) can be fined for upwards of $250,000. Basically all you have to do is call your local P.D. and tell them the train is blocking the road. There are cops out there who have nothing better to do than to ticket the trains er's Ive heard of it happening

first off yield and slow down seem to mean the same thing, so you're contradicting yourself, second as long as you are in the intersection while the light is yellow it is ok and third here are the official laws

21451. (a) A driver facing a circular green signal shall proceed
straight through or turn right or left or make a U-turn unless a sign
prohibits a U-turn. Any driver, including one turning, shall yield
the right-of-way to other traffic and to pedestrians lawfully within
the intersection or an adjacent crosswalk.

21452. (a) A driver facing a steady circular yellow or yellow arrow
signal is, by that signal, warned that the related green movement is
ending or that a red indication will be shown immediately
thereafter.

21453. (a) A driver facing a steady circular red signal alone shall
stop at a marked limit line, but if none, before entering the
crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then
before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an
indication to proceed is shown, except as provided in subdivision
(b).

now where on the yellow light section does it say stop? all it does it warn u that the green light is done, so if i go in the intersection when its yellow, i know that the green light is done, so what is your point? u can ask anyone yellow doesn't mean STOP, like you said in your first post, and now u try to correct yourself on your second post and put slow down then stop, of course if u slow down on a yellow you will stop, why would u slow down then go fast again? and on the red light it says u must stop at the line, so even if im past the line when its yellow its ok, because i was already in the intersection.... anyways i made my point, it doesn't saw you need to stop, so there
