94 suburban won't start..
I have a 1994 Chevy Suburban 5.7 liter V8 that will crank over, but not start. I've recently noticed that it has been harder to start. I can hear the fuel pump start when I turn over the ingnition key. I can smell a little bit of gas when trying to start it. I'm not sure how to test for a spark.
Please help... Thank you in advance for reading and responding to this thread. |

Re: 94 suburban won't start..
get one of those spark testers or another spark plug. connect one of the wires to it and set it on the engine block. get a buddy to crank it over and watch for spark. the first thing you should check assuming there's no spark is the distributor cap& rotor. if thats good check the coil and ignition module. also make sure the distibutor rotates sometimes the pin shears and the gear spins on the shaft.

Re: 94 suburban won't start..
If you are getting spark, fuel filter is a very cheap thing to replace (about $6.00). Worked for me after mine started getting harder to start and gradual loss of power.

Re: 94 suburban won't start..
Thanks, jimh for the advice. I had found that my coil wire was bad. I replaced the cap/rotor and coil wire that took care of my starting problem. However, where is my fuel filter located, and can I replace it myself w/o any special tools.
Thanks, again for your reply... |
