95 Tahoe 2 transmissions in 8 weeks!!!!

Bought our 95 2 door, auto trans, 4wd Tahoe in June 2003, with 72k miles. December 19th transmission went, due to cracked case. Mechanics agreed, may have just been age. Replaced with GM remanufactured, warrantied transmission for $2800. March 1, replacement transmission goes- after only 5000 miles, well within 3 year/50k warranty. Chevy dealer we rolled into said they didn't do warranty work, and it wasn't their problem. Vehicle towed to dealer who sold the transmission to us. Mechanic said transmission cracked because universals went bad, therefore voiding warranty, and we would have to pay another $2800 to replace transmission. Universals were checked in December when transmission was replaced and found to be in good condition. GM has not responded to phone calls. Mailed documentation, but hasn't arrived yet. Did receive one phone call stating that district manager called (not visited) chevy dealer and decided that transmission went because of u-joints and therefore not warrantied. We are frustrated at this point, because we are 1) unable to find other cases where this has happened, 2). don't feel we should have to pay for repairs, as nowhere in the warranty does it state waranty is void if something causes the trans to fail (which we think is wrong), 3) every other mechanic we spoke with said the chevy dealer was wrong, they had never heard of such a thing. We have owned Chevys in the past and had u-joints go and they never affected the transmission. Can anyone give some guidance? Thanks, and I apologize forb being so long winded!

Wow sorry to hear about that but I feel that should be the dealers responsiblitly to ensure that the driveline is in proper working order after having installed the trans. Matter of fact they checked it over and diagnosed the problem and attempted to correct it so the tech notes on the RO should state that they only found fault with the trans, and nothing else. That should give you quite a bit of ground to stand on while protesting this issue. Have you tried calling 1-800-CHEV-USA- and talking with them?

Hey John, Thanks for the reply. I have submitted documentation to GM regarding this and have packets ready to go to the BBB, Atty. General"s office, and Consumer Affairs Bureau, plus the board of GM. Suprisingly, after I said this a rep from GM was supposed to go and look at the vehicle yesterday. I will check the R.O. for more info, they are pretty sketchy at best. Also, can't seem to locate other cases of this happening, which is weird.
Sorry you hate everyone right now, want to place some calls to GM for me?? Julie

Get a mean lawyer and have him talk to them. I bet they will change their tune.

What happened with this? Have you had it resolved yet? I am curious to find out. I would go out on Alldata.com and look at all the TSB's. There is a TSB on there that talks about cracked cases. You could subscribe to get all details on it. These are put out by Chevrolet. They can't argue that this doesn't happen.
