Kinda Wierd Story...

I was leaving my Calc class today to go to my next class. As i get in, i stopped and looked down by my break pedal, to find a thick black wire, cleanly cut, hanging right by it. First thing i ask myself is "What in hell is that?" I haven't touched any wiring in my car since i had the alarm problem, so I know i didn't do that, and i know for damned sure it wasn't there when i left the car. I checked the car, and oddly enough, everything was there. I started the car, and i went to my next building. I parked, and as i got out of the car, i pressed lock before i closed the door, and noticed that my car acted like it locked, but the doors didn't lock. I even held the door open, and the alarm went off(as it should have if the doors were locked). I shut the alarm off, and i pressed the unlock and lock button on the doors themselves, and the locks didn't move at all. Even though i knew what the wire is for at this point, i thought it best to check fuses and everything, and sure enough they were fine. Anyways, as i thought about it more and more, i couldn't have been sure that when i got in the car and saw the wire, that my car was actually locked at that time, and i was sure that it was working when i first got to class this morning, so i'm a little freaked out about that, considering my college has had a series of car thefts and break-ins since this semester has started. But my question is, Why didn't they take my cd deck, my cd's, and my books valued in the hundreds of dollars that were sitting there. But then i counter my question with, maybe they were trying to take everything, including my car, and thought that wire was an ignition ground or something. I dunno, i'm still trying to calm down about it.

Anyways, when i got home, i put the car in the garage, and i went under the dash to look for the other side of the door lock wire, and i couldn't find it. Does anyone know where this wire runs or where i should look? Here's some more info.
*The fuse for the door locks is under the dash If i pull it out and put it back in, it sounds like the doors are unlocking, but they aren't.
*When i press either door's lock button, when i press Lock, it makes a sound, unlock doesn't(considering they are already unlocked).
*The wire itself(the half that i can see) comes down from the dash, when i look up into the dash, i see that the wire is wrapped and wire tied together, and i can't see where it leads to from there.

If you can give me any clues on where i can find the other half, it would be greatly appreciated. If you would like pictures, just let me know, and i'll post some pics. Thanks, guys.

Re: Kinda Wierd Story...

Is the wire only black... because I don't think there are many pure black wires under there.
Unless it is part of your alarm.

So is the black wire just black or is it black with a colored line down it?

Re: Kinda Wierd Story...

Not sure what you are looking at. There is no Black wire in the locks for your car. There isn't anything like that for the alarms out there either. The only thing is that it could be a grounding wire. Look under the dash were that wire could ground to something.

Re: Kinda Wierd Story...

i went to the dealer to find out that it it's part of an alarm system, and they won't touch it. It's not a ground wire, it bundles three more wires, a red, a blue, and a black ground. Chances are nobody knows where it goes since it's part of an aftermarket alarm system, so thanks anyways.

Well... did you try to follow it, to see where it goes?

Re: Kinda Wierd Story...

that's exactly what i'm saying... i can't find the other half of it.. i followed the cut half to the the brain of a system i didn't even know was installed on my car. (If anybody knows what a "Harada" control box would be for(I.E. what Harada Inc. makes), and why it has a sticker that says "For automatic Transmissions only"(Hoping it's not remote start), please let me know) I am trying to find the other half of the wire so i can reconnect them and be done with it... i just busted a bolt taking putting my dash after another unsuccessful search, and i'm almost fed up with it, and was considering paying someone for something so trivial, bite the bullet.

Re: Kinda Wierd Story...

Well, this makes things a little more interesting...
I took it to the same person that installed the keyless entry system i had bought, and told him my problem. Immediately as i got home, he called me, and immediately asked me. "When did i install a remote start on the Eclipse?", to which i replied, "I never had a remote start put on the Eclipse, Rob." He then proceeds, "Well, you have a remote start system installed on here, and the wire that is cut is from that control box, the problem here is, i don't have the wiring diagram for this system to fix your problem." From that, i replied "Here's my question, if you installed my keyless entry in the first place, why didn't you take this system out, or at least ask me about this system in the first place?" His reply, "I honestly couldn't tell you. But what i could do for you, because even though this wire is cut, it honestly ISN'T the problem, so you'd have to take it to the dealer." I say, "But i already tried that, and you know what they told me, plus i'm not paying $200 for lock cylinders, and $700 for an ECU, let alone installation costs. Just to have them say it's the alarms fault." He says, "I know, that's why we are gonna remove everything that is not factory excluding the radio, and then you take it to them. If they have anything to say about it than, give them my number"
So, i let him do that, and i go down there to pick it up. When i get there, he says he found the problem, and it was a factory wire. My unlock wire (brown with blue lining) is shorting somewhere, and when i disconnect it, the lock function works, but not the unlock. When i connect the unlock wire again, the driver side unlocks, but then it stops working again until i disconnect it. Further more, he told me a few stories about the dealer i've been going to, and said to find another one, which i did, and i asked them about the lock cylinders... their reply, "You don't need all 4, just give us your vin number, and we'll give you a lock cylinder for your key. It will be about 20 bucks." I also had the etacs harness checked, and they said everything under the dash is fine, my computer's fine, and that nothing is hacked up.

All in all, i currently everything including my glo gauges disconnected, both the remote start that was there, and my keyless removed from the car completely. That's my hell for the week. I figured i owed it to you all to finish a kinda wierd story.
