Never say "never"...
It would be easer to base the block off, say, a sb chevy shortened in length a bit, and use the heads and cam covers from two ITR's.

Well, they way I see modelling is you can make anything out of anything else. But I agree with Ferrari TR... there would be an easier way to do it.

Re: Re: mugen f1 v8

Will, I was trying to be pure for ya. Using honda parts to make a honda motor. a small block chevy would work yes, but if you go the extra step, its all honda!

Re: mugen f1 v8

Yeah, and it's appreciated, yo. I guess I shouldn't say I almost used the V6 from a 300Z for my S2000R.... I went back to the NSX motor 'cause I thought the V angle was too narrow on the Nissan block... wouldn't allow for Honda style high revs.

Re: mugen f1 v8

Also, Mugen V8 blocks are actually really small. Each side is narrower in proportion than are B series blocks, and using an american iron block (not hemi) would be more accurate in that respect, and the V angle would be pretty close. However, making a Mugen V8 from scratch would be no easy task. These aren't the pretty valve cover, simplified construction engines we see in our cars, no indeed.

But they are dead sexxy I'll admit.

Re: Re: mugen f1 v8

so thats the one v8 that honda can make...but would we ever see it de-tuned in an nsx? nope, why? cause honda sux. j/k :P But yeah, that 9000+rpm v8 in a street nsx would be very bad ass imo.

Why? Well, actually because Honda does not make it. Mugen makes it. Mugen isn't exactly to Honda what Nismo is to Nissan, for example. Honda does not give any money to Mugen to develop parts, engines, chassis, or anything. Mugen is a completely seperate business entity. However, the reason the Honda-Mugen connection is so tight is because Mugen is the work of Mr. Honda's son, who is also the primary share holder in Honda, and while Honda does not give Mugen money, Honda does in fact provide an enormous amount of technical assistance for Mugen. Honda provides parts to Mugen just as a manufacturer would for any company building crate motors and the like, but it's a one way street, Mugen parts do not find their way to stock Hondas.

In some markets, you can get your Honda with Mugen parts installed brand new of the showroom floor. Don't be fooled, though, because these are dealer installed options, and not factory. They are just like the Hondas you find at dealerships here with rims and an AEM intake or something... good stuff but not Honda stuff. Mugen is as close as it comes, though.

I still like Spoon better....

I agree. If it's a small, lightweight aluminum block...

You could buy one of these instead and use that.

Re: mugen f1 v8

wonderful everyone. look as if i picked a good topic to build on! i am, in the process of fabing up one of these bad boys. thanks to willimo.... i can now build it more acurately. i will however be using 2 itr or civic blocks to do it. blocks are cut and joined and im half way done with the intake, but mine differs from the pic. where the intake comes off your std itr revell motor, i cut both off and started scratch building it. 4 tubes come from each side into 1 larger, much larger main tube running strait down the block from front to rear. i am debating on going without the 1 larger tube but2 larger tubes, 1 for each side but also a twin turbo install coming from that. it isnt very close to what i see above but before i saw the pic, all i had to go buy is what is in my imagination. should i continue with my version of the mugen v8 or should i do it exactly how the real motor is. the reason i ask, is i will be hopefully makeing a mold and casting these for everyone to enjoy. FEEDBACK PLEASE! let me know. i will be posting pics of what i have so far!

Re: Re: mugen f1 v8

Do your version, 1 with the single big tube and no turbo, another with two smaller tubes and two turbos!

Motard, that is the DOHC vtec available in the S2000! Not a mugen V8.
