Custom RAcing League's?

I was just pondering some interesting idea's today. I was thinking about some 'what-if's'... What if I bought some sort of engine, maybe a chevy small block of some sort, I'm not quite affiliated with such engines, but anyways what if I bought one of those engines and the necessary electronics. Bought a transmission, probly sequential shift, and then fabricated some parts and made a frame for the beast. I'd end up with a Custom car, homemade. I'd also have to do a bunch of other work, I'm sure it's a LOT harder than it seems at first. But it is most likely quite possible. Now, you've got your 300, 500, dunno how many horsepower it would have, but you've got a car with that kinda horsepower and it's custom built. Is there a racing class in which you would be able to race a car of that sort? I mean, if one built a car in such a way, where would one drive it? I'm probly just dreamin' again. I'm just thinking about how cool it would be to make a full sized super-car, or race car. Five of my friends, the smartest of the bunch, and I have made a go-kart that we finished on Sunday, made from scratch. Of course we'll probly improve it over the next couple of months but it's pretty decent right now. It runs fine but we haven't recorded any specs on the thing yet as we're looking for a place to ride it safely, the street is not an option, too many stingy people.

I was just thinking what kind of feats my friends and I may accomplish in the future. The go-kart idea was mine, and I was thinking about a full sized car with suspension and a big frame and whatnot. MOre than a 5 horespower centrifugal clutch lawn mower engine. So, could this be a reality or just a dream?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I'm new here.

you can run it in SCCA events, or track days, or you could get into a series, if you wanted.
there's alot you can do

Re: Custom RAcing League's?

you're looking for aftermarket parts for a scratch built car?

you've got to make the parts, or find parts off of different cars that will work...

most homemade cars are tube chassis cars with front/rear suspensions from other cars...

Sweet... I kinda wanna make my own suspension and all that but I gotta find a good machine shop to make my stuff, or buy a bunch of tools that I'm not the best at using, of course I can learn. Do you guys reccomend any sites or books that talk about the car design process?
