Question Wil Anyone Respond To My Skunk Cam Question??

I just installed a new valve rain and skunk stage 2 cams, I put my car on the dyno, and found that there is a DECREASE in power once i switch to the vtec lob. I tried everything from changing the vtec engagement from air to fuel ratio, but i cant get this decrease to go away. Is there any way that the cams i baought are defective? some please resond, i need to decide what to do. thanks

Re: Wil Anyone Respond To My Skunk Cam Question??

Haha, you know whats funny? I just installed some CTR cams and lost 5 whp, but I gained 6 lbs-ft of torque. Adjusting my VAFC didn't do anything, I am going to play with vtec points, try raising them back up. I had it on 5400 lo->hi for the stock cams, but I think it may be to low for the lift on the CTRs. Point is, sometimes our mods when combined with the mods we all ready had, don't do what is expected. Maybe play around with some cam timing (do you have adjustable cam gears?) If you run really good fuel 93 or above, you could try advancing the timing a little. Also what compression are you running? Higher lift likes higher compressions.

Re: Wil Anyone Respond To My Skunk Cam Question??

If you are running a LS/VTEC and you used the stock ls pistons then that could be part of the cause of the loss in power. The more lift and duration you cam is the more your dynamic compresson ratio decreases. That is one of the reasons most cam manufactors suggest higher compression pistons.

Re: Wil Anyone Respond To My Skunk Cam Question??

i am actually running ITR pistons, and my compression is about 11:4:1 so i dont see how it would have to do with low compression. I bought the cams off of ebay, and got a really good price, the cams have all of the same markings as real skunk2's, is there any way they could be fake?

Re: Wil Anyone Respond To My Skunk Cam Question??

It is always possible they are fake. This is most likely not the case here but just so you know static compression ratio's change into what we call dynanic compression ratios and the dynamic compression ratio changes with the cam's lift and duration along with valve overlap and timming. I cannot think of why there would be a loss in power unless like jcrx said the vtec profile is just too agressive for the rpm in which vtec x-over is set at.
