AMT '29 Ford (not rod) kit ?
Just saw this in the hobby shop across town yesterday, thinking of picking it up for a rat rod conversion. The box art has a stock looking 29 with wood wheels etc, in pale yellow.
It says it can be built stock or custom? so... -What custom parts are included? -What is the stock engine, a flathead or a four? I had ideas that maybe if it came with a four-banger I could trick that up a bit with sidedraught carbs, headers etc, and go for a rat rod style. Of course a flathead would be fine too, but everybody's got one of those... anyone?

Re: AMT '29 Ford (not rod) kit ?
It's AMT/ERTL kit, I have it at home. But I must check what everything is inside, I don't remember all things.I remember bigger chromed wheels, some engine parts.
It can be made as pick up or station wagon.

Bummer for you. If you had the Revell reissue of their '31 Woody you'd have got one nice (if near impossibly fiddly) kit. It had a bunch of classic speed parts for the Model A four banger, plus a dropped front axle and opening doors.
Really a very cool old beast of a kit.

Re: AMT '29 Ford (not rod) kit ?
yeah I think I'll be stuck with the '29 a model roadster... but I think it might be fun
![]() I just really hope it has a four banger.. If it does I'll try and get some sakatsu webers, for starters.... Would dual sidedraughts be ok historically (say in a 50's/60's tuning context)?

Re: AMT '29 Ford (not rod) kit ?
i've got this kit, and if I had to buy it again i'd pass on it..its an old kit, and the detail is kind of soft. if you want a good rat rod kit get the revel rat rod truck kit..its got some better stuffs in it even though it is old as well. the amt kit on the other hand does have some parts in it from the original Ala Kart model..but not enough to do the ole Kart. Its up to you as to what you wanna buy. gimme some time and i will try to find a pic of all the parts for it.

Actually, when you're talking tuning old school four bangers in the 60's like the Model A four the accurate carburetor is a downdraft Stromberg. You can usually can find these in six packs in older Revell kits like their '57 Chevy (the Revell 57 had opening doors, the Monogram didn't. That's how you tell them apart.)

Re: AMT '29 Ford (not rod) kit ?
ahh ok. Are they only a six port motor or something?
I like DCOE style sidedraughts though or SU's even, so since they were technically available then .... I just bought a monogram 29 pickup off ebay, I bid an extra 50c on it to a total of $13 AUD, and I thought I'd be sniped (had a day to go)..but I got it! so thats going into the pile'o'kits too..I don't really want it, but now its mine why is it that when you want something it always gets way outta your price range and/or you get sniped with 30 seconds to go, but when you only casually bid....^ anyway thats the one I just bought, I 'spose its not rare or anything. I'll still pick up the 29 roadster though, so long as it has a four! I'd buy the rat-rod revell truck, but I'd like to make this very much an individual model... Does the revell rat have a four cylinder option?

Re: AMT '29 Ford (not rod) kit ?
Hmmmm..
Anyone know if there is a resin Ardun OHV four or a Riley four port four cylinder available? Riley four port: ![]() ![]() ![]() food for thought... that one is running four roundslide motorcycle carbs, at a guess I'd say they're Mikunis or maybe Keihins. Could be bing's too, but I think they're japanese. So I guess weber DCOE's (1950's on) or Amal motorcycle carbs (1950's and up) would be slightly more in period for a 1bbl per cylinder setup.. in case anyone's interested... http://www.handhantique.com http://www.4bangersforever.com

I think R&M or Etzels make an engine like that. Old indy car motor or even a lotus 4. I'm not a classic kit historian, so I can't tell you much about the older kits though.

Yep, Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Maryland has an absolutely drop-dead GORGEOUS resin Ardun conversion. It's unreal how good it is.
However, if you don't want to drop the $12 for the RMCoM set, Revell-Monogram had a somewhat inaccurate but workable set of Arduns in their Custom 1950 Ford Pickup kit.
