Question ERG Valve

Rcently there has been a problem with my 1994 v6 3.4L Camaro. Its been really hesitating in acceleration. I took it to a buddy of mine who did a scan on it that read out my ERG valve had a problem. He traced it back to it and found that the valve wasnt even working.
First.. Could this be the problem of my hesitation?
Second. If it is, how much would this cost for me to get a new valve, and where can i find it.
Third. Would I be able to install this myself? I will have to admit I do not know much when it comes to cars...

Can anyone please help me out?

Re: ERG Valve

you could totally install it yourself, its not that hard. all you have to do is remove the alternator, unhook the wiring, and remove six bolts. piece of cake baby...

Re: ERG Valve

um im pretty sure that they are expensive, possibly in the 200+ range. actually im pretty sure of it, but hit the internet. see if you can find a cheep one on the net and if you cant go find an advance auto parts, autozone, or pep boys. last resort is going to the dealership...

Re: ERG Valve

you might want to try taking out the EGR valve, opening it up and cleaning it out. i dont know what your capabilities are, but see if that helps the situation before you go drop too much loot on a new valve...

Re: ERG Valve

yeah, very often a peice of carbon will get stuck in the EGR valve, holding it open, so if you pull it off, and knock out the carbon, then your good to go. but you can definately do it yourself.
