Class III Hitch and Motorcycle Rack Mount
I have a Toyota 4Runner with a stock hitch and I'm not sure if it is a Class II or III. I need to buy a motorcycle rack mount that requires a Class III hitch.
Does anybody know of a good Class III if I need to change it out? Also, what is the best motorcycle rack mount to use for my GSXR 1000 track bike? I've seen Tahoes and Suburbans with these "backpacks" on them to hold motorcycles. Thanks |

If the motorcycle weighs a couple thousand pouds then you do need a class 3. I forgot the exact weight ratings, but look at it this way, a class 2 is for a medium trailer, a class 3 is for a big trailer......something like a big boat. Go to Pep Boys, they have a chart that tells you what the capacities are.
As far as transporting your bike, I've done it different ways. I made a "skid", as I like to call it. It is simply a piece of channel iorn with an angle on it and tie downs in strategic spots. They sell pre-made "skids" that are a lot lighter and are ready to go, but making one is a lot more fun and allows me to drink beer with a reason. |
