1999 Buick Ultra Low Oil Pressure Problem

I had a minor oil leak. My mechanic said that the Oil Pressure Sensor Switch was leaking. He subsequenlty changed it. It seemed fine for a few months. However, on the display panel I noticed that the Oil Pressure was always a constant 130. Just recently, the Oil Pressure Indicator showed 0 and also shows ?????. and the OIL light went on. The engine seemed to be running fine. So, it seems the the switch might be defective.

My concern is the my mechanic seems to be paying a guessing game and at this point does not seem to know the real cause.

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Greichen

This happened in mom's 1999 park ave. It's the sensor that on the side of the oil pan. No harm, just an obscure reading on the DIC. I assuere you, you definatly have oil pressure!!

why? you dont need to unless you really want to know what your oil pressure is.

The sensor on the side of the pan is for oil level only, not oil pressure. The oil pressure switch is located just above the oil filter. I would not hesitate to have the sensor replaced in the event that there were some real problems. If you did have low oil pressure, you would want to know immediately..... Buicks won't last a minute with no oil pressure without damage.

Mike;
Thanks. The display on the panel does show oil pressure readings when it worked in the past. I agree with you most car engines will be destroyed very quickly if the oil pressure readings are very low. SO, therefore, (I hope) that since it did not happen to my car (yet) that the bad reading only pertains to a defective sensor.

Re: 1999 Buick Ultra Low Oil Pressure Problem

The sender isn't the problem. The wires going to the sender are broke inside the insulation. And yes I am fixing that problem, just wondered if replacing the sender has fixed the problem for others, or if the broken wires are the problem on them also??
