Lightbulb an Idea I thought of!

ok, well people say that air intakes add more power because they are bringing more air in, so i got this idea, if one filter makes power then 2 should make a bit more... see where i'm coming from here??

i'm thinking of making a y-pipe adapter to use on my intake so i can run 2 filters and get more air coming in. do you guys think its a good idea?? i thought it would be awesome to see if it makes any horsepower gain at all

I think if it had any posative benifits, AEM would of already moved in on the idea. I personaly think it will do nothing.

that idea sounds like the electric supercharger, even though it has access to more air doesn't mean that your engine is sucking up that air. you engine can only suck up so much air. 2 filters would be usless, i have seen it done before. some guy on the tiburon forums had one. it looked odd.

Re: an Idea I thought of!

Yeah, companies already make them, with smaller filters. Air flow is airflow, until its got a turbo ramming it in, it wont go any quicker.

i had an idea a while ago about modifying an intake too, dont know if it will work though. Well, i was learning about carburetors in school and the way they work is that venturi's actually increase the velocity that air entered the carb. So i thought, what if someone stuf a venturi on a throttle body? wouldnt it increase air velocity? or not....

well if you guna try it instead of having just two filters, why not have 2 filters but at one end have a small eletric fan at the end of the instake, rig it up on a switch inside the car, and seal the fan at the end of the pipe. just to see if it makes ANY different my guess is that it wont make ANY but if ur guna play about u may as well do it properly right lol and it will be a laugh if nuffin else

Re: an Idea I thought of!

Adding another intake and filter won't make the engine take in more air, it will just take in some from each intake pipe. In order to get more air you have to force it in the engine, thus Forced Induction

yea man they right, the motor will only suck up soo much, with two pipes its just gonna suck it up from different sides, not really increasing anything, on the downside now your gonna need to clean two filters instead of just one.

true true, u all make good points, about the carburator thing.... what the hell is a carb? hehe, but i dunno much about em so i dunno,
it was just a thought i had, it would be awesome if it worked and i alreayd have 2 filters anyways, ones 3 months old and the others brand new, my other one has salt stains so i'm cleaning it out and bought a new one so i can still drive

i'll just wait to buy a turbo then hehe

nitrous is FI IMO... PhatCX, its not as simple as just buying a turbo and slapping it on.. you have to do a lot of work with fuel management, it can get very expensive

yea i know about that, i'm gonna be making a home made turbo system either this summer or winter, i'm hoping for this summer but right now i just want all the parts. i figure i might as well do it in the winter when the cars parked.

Re: an Idea I thought of!

i always thought it would be cool to make like a dual intake. A throttle body on each side for increased ariflow but i dont know how it would work though?

I dont think it would work too good. You have to remember we still only have 1.6L engines, some 1.5. That my friend is sadly less, though somewhat more amusing, than a soda bottle. These engines dont need much air unless you are revving to like 12 grand. Then im sure 2 filters and maybe even two tbs would be useful then and if you do have a 15 or a 16 hitting 12 grand or if you know of any links with em please let me know cause thatd be really sweet and probably sound like an indy car.
