Im curious because I recently took out the honey comb inserts int he MAS on my 2g gs-t not only does it idle crappy but i was thinking about replacing it. Re: Serious Question

Messing with the MAS is only for 1g cars, you should have left it alone. The EVOIII o2 sensor housing is the o2 sensor housing on the EVOIII (duh). I don't know why you are relating your MAS problem to your o2 sensor housing. In case you didn't know, the o2 sensor housing houses the o2 sensor, which estimates air/fuel ratio.

Re: Serious Question

Unhack your MAS, or get DSMlink. Then your car will run properly again

SO basically i messed it up by taking out the aluminum in the MAS anyway to fix it besides replacing it? Reason I did is a friend told me that it would let more air through and be better for the intake. On top of that I tweaked the little screw on the bottom of the MAS and my car wont start lol help would be appreciated ;-)

Re: Serious Question

Hey now, it was a mistake. If your friend tells you something and you believe it, it's not your fault that your friend was full of BS.

Re: Serious Question

If you plan to run an AFC or similar, you can compensate with that. Typically takes +30% at 1k rpm, 20% at 2k, 5% at 3k, and zero on up, for the low throttle map. Otherwise, you need to find replacements (many people hack thier mas and may have them for sale if you ask around). Put a WTB up on www.dsmtuners.com

Re: Serious Question

Please punctuate, your post made my head hurt.

The silencer removal will let you hear the turbo spool up a bit more, and the intake sucking air.

Removing the LOWER honeycomb on a 1g MAF is not a bad idea...it will prevent fuel cut, but make the car run a little leaner.
I run with the lower chamber removed and a potentiometer in the Bar Temp sensor wire. (Al Blaha MAF ) I don't recommend this as an "early" mod, though.

ummm... punctuation remarks aside, if you have it out, shouldn't you know what it sounds like?!?!?! just wondering...

and for the newb that posted this, you should be very thankful you made it in here before you started buying 'deals' off of ebay. or have you already done that? ..lol.. check out some sites for some starter info:

http://www.vfaq.com
http://www.roadraceengineering.com

get a used MAS and that should take care of your issues. think of the o2 housing/sensor like this: it is the MAS of the exhast, where as the MAS is the measuring device directly after the open air and the air filter, the o2 housing/sensor is the last measurement device before exhaust and open air. they are on completely opposite ends of the engine. extremely generaly they serve the same purpose: to measure the gas [not gas as in gasoline, but as in terms of state i.e. solid, liquid, gas] in the system to be interpreted by the ECU.

also check the stickies at the top of the forum for more beginner stuff and info
