Viper in straight line. mustang in the twisties, the rt-10 handles very harsly. You want the GTS if you want to handle well.
The hard top rt-10 may handle better, but still, GTs for all out performance.
Also, 2001 and up vipers have abs, which was much needed, so you might want to consider that.

Re: 97 dodge viper Rt10 vs 03 mustang svt cobra

yes, the viper will win in the 1/4 mile. viper-->12.4 second cobra-->12.9 second. i have heard about the rt/10 not handling well. but i have never heard of the cobra being a good handler either. so i dont know bout the twisties.

Re: 97 dodge viper Rt10 vs 03 mustang svt cobra

Well it should handle a little better, since you finally have IRS(although I'm hearing it's not all it's cracked up to be)
But a 97 viper will pul low 12's all die and 11's without much tuning.
No replacement for displacement
Though if you want to go REALLY fast, you let super viper systems upgrade you with their 950~RWHP twin turbo upgrade

I wouldn't necessarily say the 03' Cobra would outhandle a Viper. Remember, a car will only handle as good as the driver can drive it. Old Vipers have a reputation for being very unforgiven, but that doesn't equal bad handling. The only problem that would put a crutch on it may be the Viper's weak brakes. They tend to fake quicker, but its nothing that a swap couldn't fix. I would definately say the Viper accelerates faster, and I would go as far to say it also handles as well or even better than the Cobra.

An RT-10 handles poorly even with pro drivers behind it.
It goes from understree to overstreer etc.
While you can fix it somewhat, the GTS is a much better starting point.
The only pro of the RT-10 is if you NEED a vert/
Otherwise GTS all the way.
Edit- I failed to meantion this, but the hardtop rt-10 shared ALOT of gts parts, so if it's a hardtop, than it should handle pretty good

Re: 97 dodge viper Rt10 vs 03 mustang svt cobra

on that link, it is a '96 and fast-autos said '96 was the last year for the 1st gen viper engine. so '97 got a new engine, but i cant find any specs on a '97 rt/10.

Re: 97 dodge viper Rt10 vs 03 mustang svt cobra

Its 450hp.. I found it.
It will run a low 12s.. as in under 12.3 in a good driver.
Also do you even know where those supercar sites get their numbers from? A first gen(400h) will do a low 13...
