Talking 300zx vs. Sentra SER SpecV

I usually do not indulge in street-racing... but I ran into this guy and could not pass up the opp.

I'm heading home with my fiancee after watching 'Starsky and Hutch' yesterday afternoon and I'm looking in my rear-veiw and I see this white SpecV trying to catch up with me. He finally get up by and slows down and just launches. I'm looking at my fiancee, "WTF?" The mufflers on my car seem to get me alot of attention...

So about two blocks down I hit a red-light and who is next to me in the left-lane? Mr. Bone-Stock SpecV('cept for a cold-air intake... I can hear it sucking air)! Him and his girlfriend look over... he starts inching foward and I'm like: alright lets go! Here comes the green! I punch it and I'm way ahead as I hear him struggle with second and he grinds it! Then comes third gear: GRIND! By this time me and my fiancee are laughing and he is still trying to catch up. I hit about 80mph and start to slow down and I notice he slows down and stays behind me... poor guy!

I thought this guy was gonna blow me away with my very heavy car... his car was way lighter and that 175hp plus CAI makes that car very light... the outcome may have been different if he knew how to shift but a kill is a kill! Thought you guys would enjoy the story...

Re: 300zx vs. Sentra SER SpecV

he actually has 185 hp. i've beaten them before in my maxima. they only redline at 6000 rpm. when we raced he would have to shift at 6K whereas my redline is 6600 and this was my 95 maxima which only as 5 more hp. everytime he'd shift at 6k i'd pull half a car or more with my extra 600 rpm. those car's aren't really all they're hyped to be and the qr25 isn't all that great of an engine.

Re: 300zx vs. Sentra SER SpecV

I actually owned one ('02 SER) about two years ago... mine was pretty quick (a really good Hon-duh killer)! I can't wait to face-off on a MAX though with my Z! I killed a Honda Civic about a month ago... sad... everyone that owns a civic thinks he's fast...

Actually, the Spec-V's do have 175hp. You might be thinking of the 180 lb-ft of torque. And the redline is a bit higher than you quoted. It's 6250. Either way, the QR is actually an excellent engine with a very free flowing head which would be easy to shove a lot of air into. And considering the torque it's making for an NA 4-banger, it's quite impressive.

Re: 300zx vs. Sentra SER SpecV

Yes, it was good engine and good car! I'm glad they finally released NISMO parts for them because there were not many parts when I first had it... But the car was kinda kiddy for me... and I got rid of it eventually!

Oh, I seen that same guy with his white SpecV again and I got up by him at a red-light... didn't even look my way...
