91 Acura Legend LS BHG-needs new engine

I need a quick answer to a question I have. I have a blown head gasket and am planning on getting the engine replaced with a used one from japan. How can I protect myself and verify the work without offending anyone. I am going with a shop that has quoted me $2000.00 installed with a 2 year warrantee. I would like to note the serial number on my current motor.....can you tell me where it is on the block? I have not done business with this shop yet.....I am going to interview the owner today and set up the job.

Any info or advice would be great!
