Question Reasons to believe in science?

This is somewhat of a paired question with the "Reasons not to belive in god" thread.

Many posters indicated that they put more faith in science than in god. Why? Exactly what makes you feel that science (or more specifically, Roger Bacon's 'scientific method') is worthwhile and/or correct?

its constant...............ask for a couple miracles, nothin says youll get most or any of them.....ask for a couple of scientific proofs and youre guaranteed most of them......

you can see it, you can understand it, its right there in front of you, and it can back up whatever it says, because the backing behind it is what makes it exist in the first place.........

Look around you, what do you see? All things have come from somewhere, most of us know how things are made, what they are made out of, and where these materials have come from. What makes plants grow?, how have mountains formed? Lakes? etc etc I know the answer to all these and so does everyone else, science.

The only thing we (humans) are unsure of is the beginning, but I bet it is as simple as most things. I believe in the evolution of man and all things have been evolved over time. Some people just won't accept it. It has taken millions and millions of years for this planet to be where it is at today, it didn't just appear 1 million years ago.

Things in life happen from time to time that are unexplained, and when an answer comes to light, it always turns out to be something stupid and simple, that we often miss. Human beings minds have a great imagination and it quite often plays tricks on us.

I think too logically, I will probably never believe in a higher being (certainly any that controls/started life). Everything in life is growing by itself, our landscape changes everyday, it is only nature, science and human beings that are effecting these things. Things don't appear from no where, everything has an origin.

I even see a logical explaination for the so-called "God" figure. Its called brain washing. People are getting brain washed and then believing. Then the human imagination does the rest, eg hears things (god), see's things (god) etc, everyone sees and hears things, it's called the imagination.

Where is God? He's in the imagination of a brain washed mind.

Does that answer the question?

BTW - I don't mean to offend anyone, it is only what I think. If you believe in God then good for you.

Why believe in Science? Because it is all based on facts and is set in stone, it's prooven tested and you can't argue with it.

I honestly do put some amount of faith in science, although I tend to be a bit careful. After all a few hundred years ago scientists were sure that the earth was the center of the solar system, or that the earth was flat. The list could go on, but I think you get the point. What we consider absolute fact could change tomorrow. For example, in my short lifetime I've heard scientists say, first, that alcohol is bad for you, then that a little bit is good for you, and then that maybe any is bad for you. That's just another small example.Moving along...

You know our modern scientific definition of how plants grow.

Interesting you would say that, since one could argue that our notion of how plants grow, and especially how mountains are formed(since no one has ever witnessed a mountain being formed, to my knowledge) is simply our imagination's way of creatively explaining something to which we have no answer. Now honestly I think our modern explanations of how plants grow is pretty accurate. But science still doesn't satisfactorily answer the age old question, why? It tells us how gravity acts on an object to make it descend towards earth, but it doesn't tell us why. Why does gravity pull down instead of pushing up? Because that would be illogical of course. But it's only illogical because it goes against what we know. If gravity WAS backwards, we would think it quite odd to imagine what life would be like if gravity pulled down. Well, now that I've strayed WAY off of the topic, I'll stop.

Are you sure about that??

There are several ways in which mountains form, and there is one method that man has witnessed several times, think about it.

if gravity repelled, however, every atom would be spaced somewhat evenly apart from each other, and therefore we would not be here.

Of course you can argue with it. I can say the earth is flat all i want, but the truth is the truth.

I believe in a more Christian science. Obviously, all this great shit around us cant just fall into place. I think that the earth has been developing for millions, perhaps a billion years, way fuckin longer than i can imagine. Science has its place to discover, not to push its own self into a religious role.

Hehe I told you it would be difficult to imagine.

I'm sure if gravity DID repel, all atoms would have evolved differently to make up for the effects of gravity on this make believe world.
