how do you remove rear drums 2000 galant
I tried to inspect the rear brakes on my 2000 galant but I couldnt get the rear drums off with reasonable effort.
Do they just pull off. Mine wont. I tried tapping with a hammer but they are on tight. Whats the trick? |

I had the same problem on 1995 Galant. I used big hammer, knocking few times around the drum.

Re: how do you remove rear drums 2000 galant
so i carry it to a mechanic so I can pay him the $30 he quoted me to inspect the brakes plus the $89 dollars for the brake job (necause he obviously cant put it back together and let me drive away like that because of insurance reasons) and another $5.00 for shop supplies and waste 2-6 hours of work time @ $20/hour dropping it off/picking it up and/or waiting.
Or, I can just do the rear brakes myself for $25 - $30 (parts cost for Wagner line) using an hour of my free time on a weekend just as I have been doing on my own cars for the past 25 years..... I just wanted to make sure the drums pull off like the majority of drums and i havent purchased the factory service manual yet. I actually consider myself a mechanic after buildingand swapping several motors, transmissions, numerous brake jobs, suspension work and other mechanical work. Just that when you attempt to do something easy like pulling a rear drum and it sticks, sometimes it better to ask the question before wailing on it with a bfh. In fact, I actually worked as a mechanic for a couple of years while I went to college. |
