1996 Grand am guages going crazy

please help -- My 1996 Grand am's instrument cluster is going nuts. All of
the needles are flopping all around erradically. There is no pattern at all.
It happens when I'm stopped, going, slowing down, speeding up,--all
instances. But not all of the time, just when it feels like it.
---This happened before about 2 years ago and the cluster eventually
completely burned out. I had it bench tested and the guy said it was
fried. I replaced the whole cluster with a used one from a junk yard and everything was fine for almost 2 years----an now it is doing it again.
I have checked every fuse, traced every wire i could find in the mess
of wiring in the whole car----- but i cant find a problem.
please help I am at my wits end.

Did you check the inline fuse from pos+ battery to positive underhood fuse box , if that wire is loose and not bolted on tight the guages act like theres a poltergiest controlling them.

Our 96 Grand Am did that at a stop light, went 3 blocks and quit.. The altenator went out and took the battery with it.. It did this at the 110,000 mi mark.
