89 Ram 150 318 dies while driving!! Need help!

My truck quits while I am driving it. It will just cut out and then sometimes it comes right back. Sometimes I do need to pull over for a minute, but it always restarts. The problem is becoming more frequent. It seems like a fuel problem. Sometimes it won't start and I have to spray starting fluid in it to get it going, then it is fine. Could it be the fuel pump? They are expensive and I would hate to replace a good one. I am desperate. Please help me!!

You might want to try a new throttle positioning sensor. Kind of expensive, but you can get them at Auto Zone and install it yourself. It's located on the top, driver's side of the engine. Little peice of plastic with a plug and held onto the engine with 2 small bolts.

Actually, I got it fixed. The shop had a hard time, but they found it to be some switch in the distributor...

any time you have to toubleshoot an engine supported by a computer, you are better off to find someone that owns a scan tool such as a Snap-on, Pro Link. if you simply start replacing parts it won't be long before you have spent enough cash to have bought your own and find out that the problem was a bad wire in your harness.
