First, you need the hood you want to make a copy of. Then, you make a mold of it. I use alumilite:

http://www.alumilite.com/

You'll need Alumilite Clear casting resin (for the part itself), and some silicone rubber (to make the mold). For a hood you'll need to make a two-part mold, here's a How-To:

http://www.alumilite.com/howto.cfm?ID=2

THE PROBLEM with doing clear parts is, they need to be pressure-cast, or you'll end up with a ton of air bubbles in the part, seen here:

http://www.alumilite.com/howto.cfm?ID=18

Needless to say, this gets VERY expensive VERY quick. If you don't have the money to put into this, you may want to find someone who already has the equipment to do it, and send them the part to do it for you (for a small fee of course).

Good luck!

Re: Re: How to make clear hoods?

I got one easier and better than that.

My LHS sells this clear, decently thin heat something. You heat up the clear sheet, and stretch it down, over the hood, and suck out the air, I think, and when its cool, leaving the hood in the clear, outline the hood with a sharpie or another pen, and cut that line.

Poof, POW, clear hood, shit, clear anything!
