1992 Mustang Convertible

I am having problems with the top on my Mustang, it's stuck in the down position. I'm pretty sure the motor has gone out. I'm the second owner and I know it's never been replaced. Does anybody out there know if it could possibly be something else besides the motor?

Thanks

Yes it could be many things, but is most likely the motor as I had the same problem last year. It could be the lift cylinders, top switch, etc.... But my guess would be the motor. Does it make any noises when you try to put it up?

No, it just clicked when I tried to put the top up. But since I posted the question, I tried to put it up manually and it started working again. I don't know if it's just a fluke. The motor might still need to be replaced soon, I've noticed that it comes up slower than normal.

It might be that the car isn't recognizing that the e-brake is up. I know mine won't recognize it sometimes. See if the light for the e-brake comes on on your gauges.

Hello to all,

My wife just bought a 1994 Mustang GT convertible. I am LOVIN' it. However, when I put the top down it doesn't always want to come back up. It seems to be an intermittant problem. After reading the last post, I went out to check to see if the parking brake light was on and it was. Then I pushed the up switch and nothing happened. When I pushed the switch in the down direction I could hear the motor running. Again, I pushed the up switch, (a little harder this time), and it worked. Could it possibly be a switch problem or possibly that the motor had not been run all the way down before it was cycled back up?
