What to do? Valve adjustment-> Service messed up

Hi,

I gave in my 1999 honda accord 2.3 EX for valve adjustment hoping that after service, the slight tapping that was present would reduce and the mileage and power would go up , but Gosh, it has come down from 33mpg on highway to 27!! and the power is pathetic now. What to do? Did the service center mess up with the adjustment? (I took it to an acura dealer instead of a honda dealer)

Please reply!!

Thanks

eswaroop

if you still have the paper work, I think they're reputable enough to fix whatever they did wrong in the valve adjustment. but before you took the car home after the adjustment you should've test driven it with the mechanic in the car that way they can't say that you messed it up again yourself.

Re: What to do? Valve adjustment-> Service messed up

It's pretty hard not to do a valve adjustment right if the tech knew what he was doing in the first place. Is is making more noise?

Take it back to dealer & politly bitch until they remove the valve cover & re-check the clearance. The car will need to cool down for a few hrs before the clearance can be properly checked.

In most areas Honda labor rates will be slightly cheaper than Acura Rates. Dealer group I worked for Honda - $92.00 per hr Acura - $98.00 Land Rover - $150.00 per hr

Do you have a 10mm ratchet and a feeler gauge? If not go buy them at the hardware store. Metric the intake should be around .15 and the exhaust should be around .17. If it isn't right take it back and bitch. But if the noise is gonw, then they probably did it right. And exactly how are you measuring fuell comsumption?

I checked the clearances, they are off the mark. The mechanic does it by hearing some cams fall in place, basically a rule of thumb. I dont want to take it back there!!

In order to check the valves & adjust properly each cylinder must be brought to TDC before adjusting each set a valves - 4 time the engine must turn.
