Comparison: 93DelSol vs 95 Coupe DX?
In a few days I am going to check out a 95 DX coupe, the guy says he has the 1.6 127 hp motor in it, intake and exhaust. How much HP should the car have based off the average?
Also, is the height of the steering wheel higher than of the Del Sol's, and is there a tachometer for the DX coupes (looked at ebaymotors but couldnt locate a pic of a full cluster)? Thanks! |

Not too sure about the Civic's - I've never really researched them in-depth. The Del Sol Si has approximately 135hp, so 127hp sounds about right for the Civic DX. With intake and exhaust, you're looking at probably around 132hp tops, give or take an HP or two.
As for the steering wheel, 'ya got me. The '95 Civic is an EG chassis, which is technically identical to the Del Sol chassis (which is also an EG chassis). The steering wheel column may very well be the same height as the Del Sol's. I would think the Civic has a tachometer though - Honda's usually pretty good about that. But just like the Del Sol, go sit in the thing and play with it to see how it suits you.

The Civic DX has never come with the much horse power. He either has no idea what he's talking about, or he's trying to pull a fast one on you.
Del Sol: S:102 (106hp later ... 95?) Si: 125hp (SOHC VTEC) VTEC (94+ only): 160 (DOHC VTEC) 1992-1995 Civic: CX: 70hp VX: 92hp LX & DX: 102hp EX & Si: 125hp (SOHC VTEC - same as Del Sol Si)

Re: Comparison: 93DelSol vs 95 Coupe DX?
Yeah the owner said he swapped with an EX motor, I asked him if it was the 125hp or the 160hp, he replied it was the 127hp (so I suppose it was from a 96+). But seriously though, air intake + exhaust only equals about 5 hp gain? Why would anyone spend $300+ for just 5 horses?
By the way, he's asking $1600 neg, here is a pic of the car, basically according to the seller, it has 150k miles (forgot to ask miles on engine), and needs a paint job on the car, I asked if there were any dents but he just mentioned that the passenger door wont close all the way. I figure if I get the car cheap Ill put the savings into making it new, hopefully it's not TOO crappy condition, here's a pic let me know what you guys think.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy it. He's being a little shady and fixing the door and paintjob will cost way more than your budget will allow. And the hood looks like it's not fitting correctly - no telling what that might end up costing.
Sounds like he swapped in a '96+ EX engine (if that's the case). The motor code that is stamped on the block for the EX motor is probably either D16Y8 ('96+) or D16Z6 ('92 - '95). The stock Civic DX motor code for '92-'95 is D15B7. I would check that to make sure he's telling the truth. And yeah, an intake, header, and full exhaust system for Honda's usually only net around 10hp, give or take. Honda motors are already extremely tuned as is, so wringing more power out of them is difficult and expensive for the little bits of gain you receive from the upgrades.
