How much does a 92 4Runner tranmission thermostat replacement cost?
My 4Runner is experiencing slipping (even after a tranmission fluid and filter change out). The service technician at SpeeDee in San Jose is suggesting that the thermostat needs to be replaced. Can someone suggest how much its going to cost me? Also, the service technician said that it had minimal metal shavings but no major damages.

I think he is talking about the engine thermostat. A malfunctioning thermostat commonly causes this behavior. Cost of replacement is trivial.

I don't know how a thermostat can affect the transmission, but a thermostat cost around $15 from the dealer. They are ultra easy to install. Where the lower radiator hose meets the engine, that's where it's at. A six-pack of beer cost around $5. So the complete cost should run somewhere around $20.
