Question Engine problem

I just had to replace the head gasket on my 1991 5.7L Silverado.
That went without any problems, but when I went to start it, I there was a clicking coming from the distributer area.

Thought it was the oil pump, replaced it, but still have the problem, any ideas what it is?
(the was brass shavings in the oil pan too.)

Re: Engine problem

was the distributor shaft lined up with the oil pump drive?? does it run?? can you turn the oil pump shaft with a screwdriver through the distributor hole? does the cam gear look worn? sounds like the distributor might've popped up and striped the gear off.

Re: Engine problem

Yes, the shaft is lined up with the oil pump, it runs, the shaft turns, cam gear is fine, the distributer is not stripped.

The engine is still clicking, any ideas?

when you removed the fuel lines you probably just bent them up out of the way. when they were reinstalled back into place, they did not bend all the way to normal causing the lines to rub the firewall above the transmission. go under the vehicle and bend them down some more and the noise will go away.

Re: Engine problem

what was the brokym3 talking about? he had shavings in his oil pan after hearing a noise by his disrbutor... i would think with brass shavings u dropped the distrubor hold down down there or left a tool in there.
