Re-program climate control?

The climate control unit on my 1997 M3 intermittantly goes haywire. Does anyone know if it is true that if you replace the control unit it will need to be reprogrammed? I was thinking of picking one up from the junkyard, but might opt to get mine repaired if I need to have the dealer service it anyway.

Thanks in advance...

Climite Control Repair

I have the same problem on my 97' M3. It mostly seem related to hot temperature but not all the time.

We have a few options;
1 Buy new ($$$)
2 But used
3 Get repaired

I do not believe reprogramming is an issue (my opinion)

On another note:
I have communicated with somebody on Ebay that sells thier services for repairing your unit for about $40 w/o shipping. No switches he repairs your exact unit. You ship to him and a day turn around he'll ship back

I haven't done this yet....I had asked what exactly does he replace that makes the unit go 'hey-wire'. He will not give up his secret.

Question for the Forum:
Does anyone know what to repair/replace on the climate control unit?

If I knew I would attempt to repair myself. I'm not a fraid of circuit board mods. And I'm sure others would benifit from this.

HVAC unit fixed on Ebay

Since this post, I had my HVAC unit repaired by an Ebay user (cyphimsports/SpeedMarx Autos). The unit was repaired in a reasonable amount of time, but there was very little communication. The unit was shipped back to me before I was notified that he had received it. I think the whole process was about 2 weeks. The unit has been working perfectly since april. I think I paid $80, so if you have an offer for $40, that seems like a bargain. My guess is that it is a simple fix, but I don't know what it is.

Good Luck,
Mark

I had the same problem in my 97 m3. I bought a new climate control unit and it is now in Celcius. You can get it reprogrammed at the dealer or a good bmw shop.
