Well, codes 7 is throttle angle and code 14 is EAVC - I would check and make sure you EAVC is clean - sometimes they can get quite a bit of carbon build up and then the engine can't keep the A/F ratio correct and stuff - it's located on the back of the intake manifold. I don't have any pics - it's just to bolts off the back and it comes off - you don't have to align it or anything. There is a worm drive inside that opens the valve and closes it depending on how much air and stuff you need - it if it clogged or dirty and isn't moving it is probably your problem - also check the power connector for it too - I doubt it came off, but you never know.

Re: zc engine bog at WOT... codes 7/14

Alright code 7 is your throttle angle sensor. And code 14 is your electronic air control vavle (eacv). I believe my crx was flashing a code 14 when the sensor underneath my intake mani came out. Its pretty big and hard to miss, so check that out.

Is this on a dohc or sohc? And what ecu are you running?

When my eacv came unplugged, my car would idle fine. But when you tried to rev it, it would miss or something really bad. It wouldn't rev past 4,000 rpm. But idle was fine.

You said you have a new distributor, do you really mean just the cap and rotor? If those are old, i would replace them.

Question

I ran across this thread trying to find a fix for my ZC also.
I have a 89 Civic HB with a ZC DOHC swap (just bought the car a month ago). My engine is bogging at around 3k rpm. You can hear a difference in the exhaust from loud to real muffled when it does this and loss of power. I have checked for codes, but only have one quick flash on the ECU when turning the key forward, no codes. I'm not very good with working on cars, but learning. Is there some trick to getting the spark plug wire cap off on top of the valve cover gasket. I think the plug wire closest to the driverside is not making contactand causing it to run bad. I have pulled it and it just stretches the rubber down in the hole, and wont come off. Another dumb question... How do I tell what model my car is, ex: std, DX, HF or other. Only thing on the title is 89 Honda Civic HB. It has grey vinyl interior, no factory rear speakers, or cargo cover, no rear wiper. Maybe that will tell what model it is.
Any help is appreciated.

does it have the stock shift knob? if it says 1234 R then it's a std. sounds like it to me anyways cause it doesn't have the rear speakers or wiper

Re: zc engine bog at WOT... codes 7/14

nah it is 12345 R, it has a 91 CRX SI transmision in it. Reason I was wanting to find out about what model it is, cuz I want to buy a front strut bar for it on ebay. But some say they wont work with DX model Civic HB.

Re: zc engine bog at WOT... codes 7/14

aight figured out what it was, my plug wire closest to the drivers side was not making a connection, pulled the wire off finally and checked spark plug. All was fine with the plug so I put the wire back on and made sure it was snug on the plug. Running fine again. Thought I would let ya'll know what my problem was for future reference.

Later,
