coolan temp. sensor problem???????

hi i have crx b16 and it idles a litlle ruf, i disconected the coolant temp sensor and the ruf idle went away, i did this because when i tried to start the car the car had trouble starting and it seemed that the air fuel ratio was wrong. so out of curiosity i unplug it and when the car is cold it starts very badly when i crank the motor ( it did that before, but with the sensor unpluged it does the same but worse) im wondering if there is a problem runing the motor with the coolant temp. sensor unpluged is a major problem or not. And if these simptoms are from a bad coolant temp sensor or the plug that conects to it. I know ur gona say tps or fast idle valve but when the coolant sens. is unpluged the car runs fine the only thing i realised is that the vtec doesnt engage (if it does I cant feel it) please help me. thanx
