Seat Belt beeping
If anyone can help... it would be greatly appreciated. Here's the deal:
I have a 1993 Grand Cherokee, and everytime I start it up, whether or not I have the seat belt on, or off, the noise that beeps a couple of time after you start you car turns into a loud, continuous, and horribly annoying noise. I read on the internet that to disable it, all you have to do is disconnect the wire going into the seat belt, which I did, but that only made the problem even worse. Any help at all as to how to turn of the beeping would be hugely appreciated. Thanks |

Re: Seat Belt beeping
Try removing the chime module. look up under the steering area, it is small maroon coloured box with a plug at the end try pulling it out and see what happens.

Re: Seat Belt beeping
Diasabling the chime module does kill your door lock feature, also your horn wont sound when alarm goes off, just lights. All doors wiil unlock with the switch not lock therefore not arming the system. Its either locking your door manually,Listening to that annoying chime or further investigate whats making the seatbelt trigger this, pick your choice.

Re: Seat Belt beeping
I guess I suspected after the fact - just wanted to make sure... I heard that possibly mine went bad so i may need to replace it, just not sure if i wanna spend the buck as i hear its hard to get other then from a dealer and its maybe around a $100..
guess if the noise persists -i'll have to. - thanks a bunch! |

Hi, I was just wondering if you got this figured out. I'm having some power surges and other problems, exactly as you describe. Did you replace the chimer? I already tried replacing the Power control module - that didn't work. I also heard a suggestion of a bad fuse, but I don't have a manual to check the fuse diagram. Hopefully you have had some luck sorting out this problem and you will impart some wisdom to me. Thanks! Dallywags |

beeping noise
Yes, I have figured the problem, and as some posts before suggest it, it has to do with your chime module - and specifically it going bad. I assume in most cases you would need to change the module as I dont think its fixable.
I have taken it out only to find that the remote does not work to lock the doors. So far I have just ''ignored' the noise as i think it subsided with time and i dont get it as often as I used to. The best thing is to change it -it costs I believe around $100... good luck. |

so your saying if i replace the little pink chime box that this will keep it from continuously going off? u said there 100 bux, y dont u just go to a scrapyard?? i saw some one else posted somewhere that it has to do with water, not sure how true that is or not. also i saw that it could be a fuse, but i would think if a fuse was blown, it wouldnt work at all. if all it takes to fix it is replacing the chime box, then i will go to a scrapyard this week and see if that takes care of it or not. what i wonder is, whats inside the box besides a speaker to make it go bad? |

1) I cannot guarantee that your problem is exactly what I have, but if u simply take chime box out and see if u dont have the noise after that, it would be a simple way to find out. And chances are the problem is IT -looking over the posts and considering the symptoms. (i think you mentioned you had similar ones)
2) the junkyard is good idea, but i haven't been lucky with this item. 3) the speaker is probably not the probem as we do hear the damn noise, (i dont even think this thing hasa speaker) so it has to be some electronic misfunction ... -but that is my rather unprofessional guess on this Pandora's box. best, |

Re: Seat Belt beeping
i already took my box out a month or so ago and it did stop, so i believe we are having the same issue. and i did have the typical repersussions of removing it, lost my pwr locks, and all the other features. so you said u havent had any luck finding one at a junkyard??? wonder why.. they all should have one and it doesnt seem like this problem is as common as the viscous coupler so i dont know why they wouldnt have any
