has there ever been a Volvo 240 Kit?
I'd like a 1:24 or 1:25 scale Volvo 240 series car to model. Preferably a 242 (2 door), though I could convert a four door, the turrets and front/rear glass are the same in the 1:1 its only the doors, quarters and side windows that differ. However, since I doubt I'd have much luck scratchbuilding head/tail lights and bumpers, it would preferably have to represent a car from about late 1979-1980 onwards (but if earlier models are all there is, well I'd be stuck).
I don't care which company or if its a OOP-for-ages-get-it-on-ebay sort of job, I just want one. Anyone know?!

Re: Anyone ever make a Volvo 240 Kit?
I want a 2 door one, with 1980-up front and rear lights, and a flathood....
Its a shame there's no model... Maybe theres a resin body out there for the italeri 740. in terms of a 1:1, I'd like a 242, with a worked B21ET (keeping it Volvo) or a Ford Falcon DOHC+T 4.0 straight six...or maybe a toyota V8 ![]() I used to have a '80 244GL, and a 740GL. I had plans on fitting an RB-??DET into the 244 but my old man sold it out under me when I was away at uni ![]() Check this out, 595hp at the treads and an 11.91@122mph quarter, est 290+kmh top speed !!! http://www.europeancarweb.com/features/0402ec_volvo/

The only model I've seen about the Volvo 240 has been a series of possibly 1:16 or 1:18 scale models made from ABS plastic (softer than polystyrene which is used normally on car model kits), which were quite accurate, as they were actually promo models which were also sold as toys for kids. Those models were made by a company here in Finland (I don't remember the name of the company). And because they were used as promo models at the Volvo dealers here, there are all different version existing and several colors too (the color was actually the color of the actual plastic it was molded from). So, there were ones with round headlights, with the square ones, the rectangular ones, the later model rectangurar ones etc. Also they made sedan and station wagon models etc. Very good quality for toy/promo cars, but absolutely no details under the car and the interior is also very limited and poor with detail. But there you are, if someone wants a model from a 240, this might be the only choise. Later the same company made also the 740 model.
I have 2 of those models myself, one 1980 244 4-door dark green (which I have clearcoated for a better gloss) and a modified one, which is now a 1982 silver 245 station wagon (it was originally a tan color 1980 model). (My parents used to have a 1982 silver 245 station wagon, I also learned to drive with that car, that's why the model! They also had couple of other 240's and still they drive a 940 station wagon...)

Tamiya used to do the sedan, wagon and Walkinshaw race versions. You still see them advertised secondhand occasionally.

I saw a 244 resin kit somewhere along time ago, they are out there they are just hard to find.
Check out www.turbobricks.org A family friend of mine puts small block V8s in 200 series Volvos every week, my dad wants to eventually get a 308 EFI into ours. |
