Re: What springs to pick.....
$600 can only get you so far, if you are going to mod your Jetta always remember that no matter how small the job you need money and been a VW you better be ready to pay for quality parts. Budget mods only spell disaster however if you find a deal out there, go for it.
I have a 95 Jetta GLX VR6, I did my spring upgrade some years back. I put Koni Struts and Eibach Pro Kit springs which gave my car a 1.5 inch drop. I really like this combination because its not too low and I can still sit three passengers. Back then I got the whole thing for about $500. not including alignment. Like I said this was about 2 1/2 years ago My friend helped me install the parts which helped me save some installation money.
About a month ago I was checking out Shoxx.com and they had my set-up for $719. Another thing to remember is that if you are going to drop a Jetta, then protect the under carriage. The Oil pan hangs too low and with the terrible roads out there a bump or a wide pothole can take out your oil pan. get a skid plate under there. Its a pain but it is worth the extra work and pretty polly you are going to drop installing the skid plate.
Hope this helps you out.
