I have a 1992-S-10 Blazer, 2-wheel drive, 4.3 V6, It's been running ragged, idles rough. Runs rich. Black stuff with gas smell comes out the tail pipe. Got a code 42. Relaced the control module, timing chain, map sensor, plugs & wires, egr valve, coolant temp. sensor, fuel pump. It's running somewhat better, but still getting a code 42. Any ideas why???? Also have a noise coming under the truck around the muffler area..

Re: Still getting Code 42???
I have a 94 that is 4.3 that is doing the same thing, maybe you can tell me where the timing connector is. you might try replacing the filter in the charcoal canister, if possible. you may have to replace the whole canister. this will make it run rough, but usually you will smell gas in the cab too.

Re: Still getting Code 42???
code 42 Electronic Spark Timing (EST) Circuit
i assume you replaced the cap& rotor too and set the timing with the spout connector unhooked& reconnected it. if all that stuffs good and the wirings good it's usually the ecm or igniton module that sets the code. check all the wires at the computer sometimes they get corroded or grounds loosen up. i believe the timing connector is passenger side firewall area. |

The Timing connector on my 93 is on the passenger side floor board behind the top edge of the carpeting, under the glove box. Should be a white wire. |
