Naturally Vanishing Point is on the top of my list, but The Wraith is too often overlooked. Charlie Sheen is a ghost in a black Dodge Turbo Interceptor, killing off the street racers in Arizona who killed him. Pure horsepower adrenaline.

The Wraith... is that the one where the "ghost" goes around with his helmet on, shooting people with a SPAS-12 with sci-fi sound effects?

Vanishing Point is terrific. Of course, it's hard to go wrong with a supercharged hemi, right? And the twisted Easy Rider meets Bullitt plot is unique. Speaking of Bullitt, add that to the list. Even if you don't like Mustangs, it's a good flick.

Re: What About Car Movies?

Although the Movies are great, you can't forget the Dukes of Hazzard, and Starsky and Hutch. The Torino is just awesome. One question though, why don't they put an old GTO in a movie, that would just make my day.

I used to watch Dukes of Hazzard all the time, just to see how many things they would make that poor Charger jump. My dad had a charger back then. In fact, before that, he had a red Torino GT with the big white strike down the side. He also had the factory-installed 351 Cleveland. I hate him.

As for GTOs, there sure aren't enough of them around, but there is a nice one is Two-Lane Blacktop. I don't think it was a Judge, but it did have the stripes. Nice car.

BTW, anybody see the remake they did of Vanishing Point? I heard it was horrible. Viggo Mortensen played Kowalski. I may see it just because of my morbid curiosity, but I hate to see Hollywood mess up a terrific movie like that.

the remake of VP wasnt all that bad , wasnt all that great either . they changed the whole story line in it to make PC . and the cop CHARGER was cool " it takes a MOPAR to catch a MOPAR "

and this time they destroyed the CHALLENGER

i would watch it a 100 times over before i ever watch the fast and furious again

Re: What About Car Movies?

The remake of Vanishing point.....As I recall, Jason Priestly (90210 ) was the hip DJ. These days, any car movie that does not require special effects and rice rockets is great to me.

I also liked "It's a Mad Mad Mad World, (circa 1962, I think.) Terrific goofy car movie thats still entertaining.
Does anyone remember 'Electra Glide in Blue'?
Not entirely a car movie, but great all the same.

Here is an article/poll that was recently on cnn's website.

Top 10 Movie/TV cars

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - General Lee from the 1970s TV show the "Dukes of Hazzard" was the number one choice as most popular TV or movie car in a recent survey.

Hagerty Insurance, which insures collectible automobiles, motorcycles and boats, sent e-mails to about 50,000 people in its database of automobile collectors and enthusiasts, inviting them to participate in the on-line survey. E-mail recipients were also invited to pass the invitation on to friends. The company collected about 10,000 responses.

Classic muscle cars were the big winners. The orange 1969 Dodge Charger driven by the Duke boys was the number one pick. The 1968 Ford Mustang driven by Steve McQueen in the movie, "Bullitt," came in second. The 1967 Shelby GT500 nicknamed "Eleanor" in the 2000 version of the picture, "Gone in 60 Seconds," came in third.

"We thought the top choice would be the Batmobile, or maybe Tom Selleck's Ferrari from Magnum P.I.," says McKeel Hagerty, president of Hagerty Insurance. "We were surprised when the results were tallied and it turned out that 'General Lee' from The Dukes of Hazzard was the overall winner."

The red 1974 Ford Torino driven in the TV show and, recently, the movie "Starsky & Hutch" was the ninth most popular car.
