tranny trouble too

This is the 3rd time this has happened.
After driven for a while, 30 mins? in the city I will come to a stop and 100 ft before stopping you can hear and feel like a grinding noise. and then the car will die.
It will start, not problem there, but then put it into D and Dead.
I have to accel a bit and then put it into D.
And then... it will stop.

Some one told me it might be a vac house leak.
I have no clue....
So,
Any ideas? comments? etc?

This sounds similar to a problem I had. Did you get to higher speeds (excess of 40)? If so, it may be your TCC solenoid. Its a common problem on Cuttys. Look it up on Google or on AF and see if the problems are similar to yours. If so, a new solenoid will cost you about $40 at pep boys or napa.

Ok, I have more specifics on the problem (still not sure what it is)
After driving around for a while (most of the time after not stopping for a while and going 50+), just before I come to a stop the car will make some "grinding" noise, will start to shake and then stop.
If I shift it into 2 or 1 then it will not happen.
It feels like what happens in a manual tranny when you are in 5th and start slowing down to a stop, but forget to down shift or press the clutch.
Could it be getting stuck in 3rd?
If that is the case? what could it be? and how to fix it?

If this still matchs what you said, where does the TCC solenoid go?

One more thing.
This only has happend once, but I was doing 30? and steped on the gas and the car must have gone to 40? but the speedometer jumped to 80+ this lasted for 1 or 2 mins... then then back to normal.
