1994 T-bird Odometer Problem
Does anyone have experience with repair of the odometer itself, other than R&R of the entire instrument cluster?
Any help or advice would be most welcomed. Bill |

Re: 1994 T-bird Odometer Problem
I'm starting to dig into the problem and I was hoping that someone would be available to share their experiences.
Initially, this is what I've learned. The semiconductor (IC) in my unit that does most of the work is an ITT device of type UAF2115. The 2115 receives an input from a transducer mounted on the transmission and creates a signal which goes to the "stepper" motor that drives the odometer. For those not familiar with a stepper motor, it does just that--for each pulse that it receives it steps around. As you have probably guessed, the transducer sends pulses from each rotation of the drive-shaft, the IC amplifies the signal, and passes it on to the stepper motor. By Friday afternoon, March 19th, I should have a test rig that will give me a yes/no result about the electronics. If the test rig does work, and it might not, I'll share its design and use online soon thereafter. If the electronics check out, the only thing left is the stepper motor and it's unlikely a new one will be available to be found. One can only hope. Thanks for your interest. Bill Followup: Technical specifications for the main IC is available at this link: http://heneghan.members.beeb.net/audi/uaf2115_1ds.pdf An earlier version, with similar characteristics is available here: http://heneghan.members.beeb.net/audi/UAF1025.ZIP Both files show how to create a test circuit for the chip. The chip in my odometer is defective and I can't find a replacement for it. Yes, it does say Audi, but as you probably know, good things are shared. Last edited by wrs; 03-18-2004 at 09:54 AM. |
