Modfied Jettas any type

I have noticed on this forum that there aren't any threads on modded Jettas. Do people not think Jettas can be fast? There are more than a few 1.8T 10sec Jettas around and high 13-14 second VR6 Jettas. The point being. If anyone with a Jetta needs to ask questions on how to modify their car. Reply on this thread and your questions will be answered. If I can't answer them someone else on here might be able to answer them or I can refer you to somewhere where you might be able to find the answer.
I've only lost 5 races in my life in my 95 VR6 Jetta so they aren't slow by any means.

VF engineering just got done with their stage 1 and stage 2 supercharger for the VW 2.0 crossflow engine. You can also get the neuspeed super charger wich usually gives you as much whp as a stock VR6.
If you want to go further you can get atp's t3/t4 turbo setup also.
I do believe they also make cams and cam gears for the 2.0 also.
Last but not least you could get nitrous but you might need a new chip b/c of timing.

Re: Modfied Jettas any type

I just rolled my car and I'm looking for a car that would be a good Daily Driver and weekend racer, I was interested in a 1995 Jetta III with the V6, would this be a good car to mod for the races and for relatively cheap? I'm looking to make it run high 13s to low 14s. Also, I was looking around for good mods on google, and didn't find anything has interesting or as reputable as japanese manufaturers have what are your suggestions for mods and what not. Or should I just stick to looking for a japanese car that would be easier to fix up. Thanks

Re: Modfied Jettas any type

Its a matter of preference. I personally think that a finely tuned european car has alot more class than some japanese rice rocket. The jetta III with the VR6 with a stage I supercharger will easily dominate. Now... I just need to work on getting the funds to get one.

Re: Modfied Jettas any type

The VR6 is an expensive motor to mod but you get a lot of fun out of it. One thing. The motor is literally bullet proof. I can take Turbo and Super Chargers on stock internals anywhere between 8-10psi. Go to Techtonics, www.supremepower.com , Denon, Autotech's site, Eurotuner's site, and European car's site for places to buy mods for the VR6. Yes they are expensive but will last atleast 150,000miles if not 200,000.
If you want a VW and want a car that's cheap and easy to modify you can get either the GTI 1.8T or the Jetta 1.8T they are easy and cheap to modify.
You can get a chip and get anywhere between 15hp-30hp from them. Some people say you can get a little more hp from the chips.

You say the VR6 is more expensive to modify than the 1.8T but which one can you get more out of? You originally said that "There are more than a few 10 sec 1.8T out there and 13 - 14 VR6s", does that mean you can get more HP and torque out of the 1.8T than you can the VR6? Or just more dollar for dollar? I've always assumed that bigger displacement meant more performance and more potential. Is this not correct?

Re: Modfied Jettas any type

I meant dollar per dollar you can get more hp out of the 1.8T. Now if you do have the money to buy a turbo for the VR6 then you get a bit more hp out of the VR6T than the 1.8T.
The 13-14 second VR6's are the one that go the N/A route.
The VR6 itself is a pretty bullet proof engine and can take a lot of hp and tq put through it. My mechanic who's worked on both told me the VR6 is a much tougher motor than the 1.8T.
I hope that helped.

Re: Modfied Jettas any type

Jettas rock score the V6 and then turbo and straight pipe it.

Hey guys, I found a pretty good parts supplier, they are not the best but they work: www.andysautosport.com They have a good selection of Body kits, engine mods, Turbos, Superchargers, etc...

HAHAHA you kids are hilarious! as if a 1.8T can do 10 seconds!!
get a grip on reality! I've rebuilt high horsepower muscle cars that have a curb weight less then a jetta and they can't even do 10 seconds.
and were talking over 400 hp at the pavement.
I've got a 2000 vr6 and the thing is gutless, I don't even pretend that it's a racer... because it's not!
Like think about it.. it's all wrong, just go down to the track for a day and see who all the real winners are! they are all rear wheel drive v8 cars. these little front wheel drive cars with spanky little 1.nil liter engines are not meant for fast 1/4 mile times. even all the physics are wrong, there isn't any good weight transfer.
bloody hell a 600 hp v8 with big boots has a hard time hooking up and getting 10 seconds.

Stop watching fast in the furious and go to the track to see the real winners!

regards,

all knowledgeable

Re: Modfied Jettas any type

you must be pretty damn bad at tuning, what kind of "muscle cars" have you built? By the way, if a Honda civic can run 10s when tuned right, so can a jetta easily, and I must have missed where we said somthing about a jetta running 10s cause when I posted I said 13s-14s. And another thing why are you bashing people, you are a noob

modding

I am going to mod my my jetta. It is a wolf 1.8 T. right now my plans are chip, exhaust and intake. I'm not going to do too much cuz i don't want to blow my engine. I think I'll be happy with 230HP. I am also going to be modding the look... I am thinking a caractere kit minus the "wing." Trying to keep it looking not so street racer but more elegant. I have plans also for wheels. I don't know.

Anyway, the moral of this reply was to let you see that there are people who are modding...
