the 2.3 is worht less, there are a lor of shops that will sell you a street legal 305 (5 liter) that make around 400 ponies, but most are carbuerated. I would wait a few months and then order a new 4.6L and tranny from Ford and then blow every one away with 300 stock ponies.

Re: 4 Cyl performance?

2.3s generally are not worth a crap the only one I would take is one out of a turbo coupe t-bird just because it is a turbo motor(it puts out the same horspower as mustang gt just not as much torque

stick with a v8 a true power motor worth putting money in to.

i agree with them, i have a 2.3 stang, and i got a line on an SVO turbo for it... but why? it's a 4-banger... soon, i'll have a motor with double the cylinders and more than triple the displacement ready that will put shame to anything you could potentially make a little 4-banger do.

Re: 4 Cyl performance?

www.racerwalsh.com if you go to stangnet.com they have their own 2.3L forums...mostly everyone on there is turbocharged though.

Re: 4 Cyl performance?

dont let anyone tell you the 2.3L is a piece and isnt worth anything. there are 2.3s that rev to 9K RPM's and make 600+hp, those cars however are only used in stock car racing. if you want to make your car faster heres a hint :the main problem with the 2.3L is its induction....put on an aluminum head from racer walsh for 950 and you should add quite a bit more ponies, im not sure on an exact number though...also you could get a T5 transmission to free up a few more ponies... and apparently you can make your own "cold air induction" kit out of pcv pipe...it only adds 5 or so hp though.

Blow everyone away with 300 stock ponies? You do know that there are 2.3 turbo cars with the stock crank, stock rods, stock pistons, stock heads, stock intake manifold, stock exhaust manifold, and stock computer that are making 400+ horsepower, eh? The stock motors are tough as hell, and with a bolt on T3/TO4E or a T3/60-1, some head work, a good intercooler, and some bigger fuel injectors it isn't going to be hard at all to top 400 or 450 RWHP. One of the great things about 2.3 turbos is you get a ton of old rednecks that get a 2.3T car and say "This there 4-banger aint worth squat, i'm gonna make some monster power on a 302 with a 600 holley!" with the 2.3T will actually make more power, more torque, and get much better gas mileage. Not to mention a 2.3T is a direct bolt-in swap for a 302, your car remains lighter so it will handle better, and it's easy to make 275 horsepower with some cheap mods on your stock motor, basically all it takes is a K&N, a boost controller, maybe a hogged out intake manifold, and a 3" exhaust.

i might not trash my 2.3 when i'm finished with it. i'll probably end up putting it on my motor stand and taking it apart, see what all is wrong with it. if the block is in good shape i might rebuild it and use it in some other fox-body for a daily driver. that would be badass. hell, i've even got another fox-body for it, should i choose for some reason not to sell it.

Re: 4 Cyl performance?

if u got a 2.3 ford motor the best way 2 go i think is turbo ive seen magazines with 900+hp and almost the same torque but that was with about 35-40 lbs boost and fuel injection but i would rather have a 2.3 like in my bros mustang than a V8 no offense but the way gas is shit take the 2.3.
at
http://www.esslingeracing.com/
u can get a block there that is a 2.8 and then fuel injectit and turbo it then that will make alought of power pluse turbos sound cool!!

Re: 4 Cyl performance?

wow thanks alot. i know everyone of my dads friends and himself say that the 2.3 is tough as hell. we just put in a new one and the old one ran to like 250,000. so do you think i should look at the junkyards for a turbo coupe motor or what would be the best way bolt on a turbo? anymore feedback would be awesome. thanks.

Re: 4 Cyl performance?

yea, search the junkyards, you cant just take the turbo off of a turbocoupe and bolt it on your engine, you have to do the whole swap.
