MK3 GTI stalling problem.
My 97 Golf GTI 2.0 8v has a problem with stalling. At first it only happened occasionally, but it has got progressively worse to the point where now the car won’t tick over most of the time. Above tickover, the car runs perfectly – with no spluttering or surging at all. When the car does tick over, it sits quite happily at 900rpm.
I have replaced the air filter, plugs, distributer cap and rotor arm. There is a strong spark. I think the problem is somewhere in the fuel injection system, but I don't know where to start looking. I don’t want to take the car to VW as I am due to part-ex it for a new car in 2 weeks and could do without the expense. Can anyone help? Many thanks, Ben. |
