Hi I have a 1990 300zx na atx and it was recently vandalized among other things the ecu was stolen. I bought a replacement from this guy off ebay and was told it was a 300zx ecu and that it worked in a 300zx same specs, after researching the codes off the ecu come to find out it is actually off of a j30 na atx. I asked around at the 300zx forum and all over the damn place, no one can answer the simple question of will this ecu actually work in my 300zx? It plugs in perfectly and powers up, but I can't tell if it works because my car cranks over but won't turn on, and it may be this or maybe another part I replace. I asked the guy he swears up and down it worked in the z, but I don't know if his information is valid, after all he made a mistake but the price for it was fair. I thought I would ask because there is plenty of people on this forum so I figured someone has to have tinkered around with something like this.

Re: 300zx ecu = J30 ecu
I'm not so sure... but ZOSO is more the tech-guy around here... The J30 does have the same motor I believe and I would say you should not have a problem... BUT I believe those engines are tuned differently and you may NOT be running your Z to it's full potential! HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR THE ECU if I may ask?

1st off Thanks for responding.
Let me say that I know both cars use the VG30de. The 300zx version is rated @ 222hp and J30 @ 210hp. From the research I have found so far, that the j30 has lower hp only because of an intake and exhaust restriction added onto them to make them quieter supplementing its luxury design. Then I read on another site, and I am not sure how acurate it is, in addition to those restrictions there may have also been a timing reconfiguration. THe ecu only cost me 45$ and that was shipped. I also thought I might be restricting its power as well, however from what I have heard removing those exhaust and intake restrictions yield the additional 12 hps, which in essense would be the state the stock z would be. |

Re: 300zx ecu = J30 ecu
Get the 300ZX ECU. J30's is slightly different, mostly because its a luxery vehicle. We did the J30 transmission swap into out 1995 Project Maxima, then we dropped in a VG30DETT engine, the thing was built too. Then the transmission shredded itself (was expected) so we had to send it out to be race built before we reinstalled it. (it wasnt my car, I just helped quite a bit) Im thinking of doing this swap myself, and having a sick ass car. No clue why I just rambled about that, thought it was relevent. Haha. But yea bro, get the 300ZX VG30DE ECU/M... Its not worth risking the intake difference's like you said. I'd say you just kinda wasted 45$, but thats what Ebay is for... You buy something shitty off the site, you can resell it and pull the same scam, God America is great
