tranny flare

I have a 99 Rodeo with an automatic transmission and for about a month the transmission has been flaring when I'm slowing down from 2nd to 1st. It has 97000 miles on it, I had the fluid flushed and it stopped for about a week, but then started again. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Was the filter changed with the tranny flush? Also check the fluid level.

The filter was not changed with the flush. I'm not sure about my battery and alternator I've only had the vehicle 2 months. Could that be the problem?

Re: tranny flare

I talked to someone at Isuzu and he said that the noise I hear when the vehicle downshifts from 2nd to 1st is called a tranny flare, so I really don't know what it is.
I took the vehicle to my mechanic and he said it's normal and that is the way the computer is programed to shift, so I guess I'll just let it go.

Re: tranny flare

Actually I think it is normal too. It is called grade logic:

http://www.fourwheeler.com/roadtests/50258/
"The transmission, meanwhile, benefits from something called “grade logic,” which is designed to help it automatically select the right gear for climbing or descending grades."

Re: tranny flare

Does it matter that my Rodeo is 2wd?
It normally does it when I'm slowing down at stoplight and I don't usually drive it really rough.
