Supplemental Inflatable Restraint

I am wanting to change my steering wheel position sensor but do not know how to disable the SIR system. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Supplemental Inflatable Restraint

Get a Haynes or Clymer repair manual (about $20.00) They will have a step by step procedure including pictures.

I just did this procedure this weekend. The Haynes manual is terrible for tellign how to do this. I removed the fuse from the panel on the left side of the dash, waited a few minutes for the reserve power to die out and went to work. As long as you dont ground anything out or unplug anythign important youll be alright. It reall easy, right before the column goes into the firewall, remove the nut where it joins with a gray plastic cover for the sensor, and pul out the bolt, then push the bar into the firewalla few inches. The sensor comes out but unplugging the electrical connector and prying up 3 prongs in the gray cover. Slide it off the metal column and reinstall. Its a cinch!
