Thumbs down idiot mechanics?

alright here's the story. i took my 02 wrx in to the local subaru dealership to get the remotes (key fobs) reprogramed because one of them wasn't working. they are having a hell of a time reprogramming them. they're on the second day of trying to figure it out. they said it's because i have a turbo timer installed? which makes a little sense since you have to use the ignition to reprogram the key fobs. they're making me a little doubtful though because the technician has never seen a turbo timer before, or at least that's what the salesman said. that made me a little nervous, plus i don't trust dealerships at all. do they need to just take the turbo timer off and program it then reconnect the turbo timer? that seems to make the most logical sense, or are they just idiots and should be able to reprogram the key fobs with the turbo timer installed? i know this is kind of an odd question, but it'd be really helpful if anybody has any info. on this problem. i'm getting very impatient with the dealership.

Re: idiot mechanics?

It took me 5 minutes to reprogram my replacement remote myself.
I can't see how the turbo timer has anything to do with it.

Re: idiot mechanics?

you dont need a turbo timer... the wrx's turbo uses water to cool the turbo (after the engine is off)... no need to run the engine

Edit:

Re: idiot mechanics?

You need to learn to scream at them.

It worked when they tried taking their time fixing the cruise control module in my car.

Ray is right. You can't be nice all the time. Don't let them take their time. You're a paying customer and they're working for you. Go in and make them get it done NOW.

Re: idiot mechanics?

well they're done now....technically i wasn't paying for it...it was under warranty. and i definately screamed at them, they gave me a loaner after the 2nd day in the shop. it ended up being a piece of wire up in the wiring loom. just a really weird thing that it took forever to pinpoint what was wrong. i dunno, i have my car back now so i'm happy again. but i've never trusted dealerships and never will.

So it wasn't their fault that it was taking a long time it was the piece of wire. People are so quick to blame mechanics when they don't realize how many things can go wrong on a car. You don't see people yelling at doctors for taking their time, and they only have two models, male and female. Mechanics don't get any respect for doing a very difficult and thankless job.
