this '92 eclipse is really testing my faith....

hey everyone, i'm new to the eclipse part of the site, but i figured maybe you can help.

I recently got a 1992 eclipse, 1.8 non-turbo, 5 spd from a friend of mine. It cranks but needed a new computer to run. I got the puter, and plugged it in, (along with many other things that needed replacing) but it does the same action. It cranks, backfires somewhat, and might catch and start, but stalls a second later.

I was hoping if you all could help me, I know the puter works, but i'm at my wits end... any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you're not getting proper fuel delivery, or maybe you need new spark plugs. Maybe you have one or more bad fuel injectors?

I'm guessing wrong spark plug order, bad plugs, or base ignition timing way out. Only because of the crank/backfire/crank description, and what I have seen in the past.. Hard to diagnose thigns over the internet, thats for sure.
