Right Tire Shakes

I have a 93 Explorer that I just bought and when I get it up to about 60 mph the right front tire begins shaking pretty bad. I had all of the tires balanced this past weekend and it is still doing it. Also, the four wheel drive wont engage and I feel a thumping sensation after it changes out of fourth gear. Im wondering what in the world I have gotten myself into. Could anyone please give me any insight to any of these problems so I at least know where to begin? Just hoping I havent bought a lemon. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Right Tire Shakes

You should have auto hubs. That side may be defective and locked. It my evenhave a bad U joint in the half shaft at this age. Jack up that wheel and see if the shaft turns. All those 4WD shift motors on the transfer cases freeze up. Not that hard to take them apart ad clean them up. Search down for instructions.

Thanks for the info. Ill see if hubby knows how to fix it...probably not..lol But if not, Ill just see if I can get the mechanic at my job to take a look at it to see if he can figure it out. If it is simple enough to do though, DH may be able to figure it out. Thanks again for the info.

Re: Right Tire Shakes

have your suspension checked,

it sounds like you may have worn parts in right front

OK another stupid question, but is having the suspension fixed very expensive? I dont want to get taken in by some mechanic that figures out real quickly on how naive I am about cars. As for the thumping kind of feeling I was getting, a guy at work advised me to try fuel injection cleaner to start with because it just "felt" like it was almost a stuttering? Since using it I have noticed quite an improvement though. Still does it a little but not nearly as much as it was. So maybe thats one thing down off of the list of many things to fix..lol

Re: Right Tire Shakes

at most places it doesn't cost very much,

at the shop i work at it costs 10 bucks plus tax for an alignment/suspension check and you get a repair estimate with it also
