Whining on cassette player
Saturn Sl1 factory cassette player. I recently noticed when I turn on the cassette I get a whining noise (the music does play) in the background and it seems to be related to my accleration. When I give it more gas it is more prominent and faster. I know it must be some interference but where could it be coming from?? Anybody have an idea.

Re: Whining on cassette player
you are hearing the alternator whine. to fix it you can get a capacitor or one of those noise reduction devices. the part can be soldered into the line.

Re: Whining on cassette player
Out of curiosity, since my 1993 SL2 has the same problem, how is the alternator affecting the cassete player like that?

Re: Whining on cassette player
it could also be bad spark plug wires.
both the alternator and spark plug wires can create background noise. the noise is voltage spikes. think of your electrical system as a long flat road, its ideal to drive on, every thing is real even. throw some noise in, now you are driving in montana. up and down hills, changing speeds and gears, braking, ect..., every thing changes, that noise is the rapid changes in the electrical system that shouldn't be there. |
