RX-7 In The Garage

Hi how’s everyone doing in this chat room?? I am glad to be here cause I am curious about possessing an rx7 car. In my past I have been studying about other cars but the rx7 seems to be pretty unique. comparing the supra to the rx7 it looks to be that the car has a worse horsepower to weight ratio compared to the rx7 when it has the 20b 3 rotor wankel engine and modifications to go along with it. I just wonder how the rx8 20b rotor wankel would compare to the Toyota supra modified since the car seems to be a little more heavy. With the non modified rx7 I understand that it has good gas mileage but may need more care to keep than a supra. When it comes to racing I understand that you can go to school for racing but what could I gain if I don’t go extreme in learning how to drive sports cars. I also understand that it can be hard to make a living off of racing and it has no guarantees. But in most cases I just want to know how can you make good money being supervised w/o dealing with crazy people out there that may not know how to drive. I also want to know if a high performance like the rx7 is worth it to keep in the garage for special occasions without it collecting dust since the insurance seems to be pretty high for someone like my age

how old are you? cuz there is a lot you need to know about an Rx before owning it. No rx-7 came with the 20b, and if you are looking to swap it out, if you're not looking to do the work yourself it will cost you a lot. Keeping it in the garage is not a good idea. Rotaries do not like to sit, they LIKE to be driven, and even redlined ocassionaly. As for driving experience, go check out your local SCCA club and go do some autocrosses. they'll help teach you how to drive and stuff. If anyone has anything else to add, go ahead. feel free to correct me on anything as well, i'm still learin too!

Yes at the moment i am 22 yrs old but when i am 25 yrs old i believe thats when the time the insurance prices goes down with the 20b 3 rotor engine i notice that it is a j-spec sort of engine but the 13b 2 rotor is the rx7 based engine. from what i understand the type of answers i am trying to figure out is science that may do me good when i have the chance to get prepared for it like the rx8 w/ the j spec 3 rotor wankel engine vs the supra in performance but at the moment i dont have all my bills payed for i appreciate your response but for everyone you are never too old for learning

to get a little bit more detailed since the rx7 is one of my favorite sports cars what i want to know is with this car and racing what does it take and what style of racing would put money into the car for mods/repairs for the average skilled driver as well as putting some of that cashflow into my bank account that is not illegal

let me rephrase the repair thing lets say that i find a few mechanics by the time i turn 25 which is 3 years from now that can help me out on how to fix the car and only pay for the parts that would break would i still be able to get a little cash inside my pocket if it was possible?? just using my imagination for curiousities of the possibilities of life

rotaries should be redlined atleast once a week(and I don't mean once, I mean for a period of hard driving) if you ask me you should do it like 3 days a week, I do and mine runs rather well

a couple things to think about...rx-7s have alot of aftermarket parts availible for them but they are harder to work on since they have the rotary engine, although they are almost perfectly balanced so if you want handling this is the way to go, if you are just going for speed, the supra isnt bad since it is a more standard engine more people know how to work on them so you might save some moola in the long run...but yah it is heavier so...I personally would go with an RX-7 since you will probley be putting a lot of money into it anyways and if you live near a big city youre likely to find someone who knows a lot about it, a club or dealer or friend or someone!!! have fun man, do some more research.

for the rx-8, dropping a 3 rotor is going to cost you even more money than with a 7, because i don't think it's been done yet. you'd have to build and design your own cradle, so you can maintain that near perfect balance. I don't recomend doing that to an rx-8, you'd be better off with an rx-7, the're more sportscarlike.
