Re: Malibu Weight

The curb weight for a 1997 Malibu with the 2.4L is listed as 3,051lbs. Similarly, the V6 powered 97 LS is listed at 3,100lbs. These numbers are empty without gas. For comparision, the 2003 Malibu which only came with the 3.1L, is 3,106lbs.

4 cyl malibus must be hard to find. I was looking for one forever. I ended up with a 6 cyl. I hope I never have to work on it! I'll probably just take it somewhere.

What MPG do you get with the 4 Cyl?

Re: Malibu Weight

Why don't you like the 6 cyl ?

It has good power, its a well tested engine, and gets good gas mileage. I get around 19-20MPG in pure local town traffic, and 30-33MPG on the highway. On average, with about 2/3 highway and 1/3 town I get 26-28MPG.

Re: Malibu Weight

changing the spark plugs is a pain in the ass.

I just like 4 cylinders, everything is right there and usually easy to get to. I've got a 94 civic and I can do just about anything to that car easy enough. But other than that, i have no problem with it.

Thats odd because there are a lot of other cars with the 2.4l engine in them. There are also lots of mods you can make because lots of people have done them. Here are just a couple engine mods. http://upgrades.aleromod.com/24_dohc_performance.htm

With a knuckle socket and 3" extension, I got my 6 cyl. plugs changed in less than 1/2 an hour. Really not as bad as it looks...
