replace air bags
Hi,
My name is Bruce, and I am new to the forum. I was wondering if anyone had info on how to install air bags in my 1995 cobra. I just got it, and it was in a small front end crash. Any help would be most appreciated Thanks |

Re: replace air bags
Heres a problem , if the airbags deployed from a colission the value of the car plummets and the airbags could cost a few grand. Most cars are wrote off when the bags deploy due to the price of the airbags. For example , you pay 8,000 dollars for your cobra , crash the front end 1200 dollars damage , airbags 3-5000 dollars , the insurance company looks at it as a write off , not worth fixing or not safe to fix and the price to install them is outrageous and not the easiest thing , youd be better off not trying to do this on your own , how will you know if they will work or were put in 100%.
Have a tec at least help you , I would hate to hear about you gettin hurt from a malfunction or no deployment in an accident. Just be carefull. |

Re: replace air bags
Also, make SURE the battery is disconnected completely - both terminals. Remove the fuse as noted above. I think the circuit holds current, via a condensor, for about 15 minutes or so. It would really be a bummer to hook it up and have it immediately delploy again. Also, you can sustain injuries in an accidental deployment.
Just use care - I worked around my Blazler's airbag system this weekend. No problems. Make sure you are "grounded" so there is no chance of static electricity setting off the new airbag. Good luck and be careful. You should also know that the computer keeps a history if the airbag has been deployed - not that it means anything if it's been replaced. |
